BrugBouwer (trans: Bridge Builder) is an ongoing participatory community art project envisioned in collaboration with local authority figures, a youth worker and researchers. Based in a diverse residential neighbourhood of Groningen, The Netherlands, the plan is set to enable young families to bridge the gap between their neighbourhood and the currently inaccessible local park. By bringing various groups of residents together to create an asphalt mural that crosses the road, the BrugBouwer serves as a catalyst to initiate local conversations about place, belonging and diversity in the local area.

The project was developed and prototyped as part of a design sprint week with Generous Groningen and will hopefully be put into action late 2020/ early 2021.
